YGD BAFTA Game Concept

Writer: Tyler RotheramTyler Rotheram

At the end of Sixth form (2019), I worked for three months on a idea for a new game concept to apply for the BAFTA Young Game Designers Game Concept Award, which I called Conundrum.

The game idea I decided to create was a combination of the escape room puzzle genre, as well as the Visual Novel genre. I wanted to put a new spin on the genres to have the game items progress the story, rather than having the story give you new items. The game would change radically based on how these items were used.

Moreover, I decided to go a step further and actually create a small prototype of the game to ensure it would work as an idea, and playtested it with a few friends.

I ended up actually getting nominated as one of the finalists for the YGD BAFTA 2019 Awards, and got to go down to London for the first time in my life! I was invited into the BAFTA House and got to meet some incredible people, from industry stars to journalists and content creators!
